The 10 Worst Places to Find Construction Jobs Right Now

Between June 2024 and June 2025, these 10 areas saw the largest construction employment drop in the nation.

We recently published an article detailing the 10 metro areas that added the most construction jobs to their economy between June 2024 and June 2025 (July data has not been released yet at the time of this writing). It was great to see so many areas boosting their construction market, and it’s helpful to you, the Tradesmen, because you get to see which areas offer you the most opportunity.

Conversely, we view outlining the metro areas that saw the biggest declines in their construction labor force as important as focusing on the boomtowns. In an attempt to reveal cooling or cold markets to you, we’ve compiled a list of the top 10 American areas with the most construction jobs lost. Here is where we got our data.

10.  Portland/Vancouver/Hillsboro, OR/WA Division

·      June ’25: 79,300 total Jobs (-2,800 from June 2024)

·      3% loss Year over Year

9.        Atlanta, GA Division 

·      June ’25: 102,500 total Jobs (-2,800 from June 2024)

·      3% loss Year over Year

8.        Anaheim/Santa Anna/Irvine, CA Division

·      June ’25: 102,500 total Jobs (-3,100 from June 2024)

·      3% loss Year over Year

7.        Oakland/Fremont/Berkeley, CA Division

·      June ’25: 70,900 total Jobs (-3,700 from June 2024)

·      5% loss Year over Year

6.        Seattle, WA Division 

·      June ’25: 69,700 total Jobs (-3,800 from June 2024)

·      5% loss Year over Year

5.        Baton Rouge, LA

·      June ’25: 50,600 total Jobs (-4,000 from June 2024)

·      7% loss Year over Year

4.        New York City, NY

·      June ’25: 139,200 total Jobs (-4,100 from June 2024)
