Average Hourly Construction Wage Increases 8.5% in Two Years
Recent data shows that the average hourly wage among all construction workers is increasing at a rate higher than the national inflation rate.
The most recent data released by the Associated General Contractors of America indicates that construction workers’ average hourly wages are increasing at an impressive rate.
According to the data, the average hourly earnings for all construction employees was $34.30 in July 2023. For July 2025, the average hourly wage is now $37.23. The $2.93 per hour increase equates to an 8.5% raise. Since inflation has been a hot topic over the last couple years, a natural question to ask is: Did construction workers actually get a raise when factoring in inflation?
In July 2023, the U.S. inflation rate was 3.2 %, compared to just 2.7% today. Clearly inflation has cooled, but to get an exact answer, we’ll reference the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics inflation calculator, which allows you to check a wage’s buying power from the past and compare it to that same wage’s buying power today. In July 2023, the average construction worker’s wage of $34.30 had the same buying power as $36.19 has today. So, with the current average hourly wage for construction workers being $1.04 higher than the 2023 rate when adjusted for inflation, we can conclude that tradesman have seen a net increase in hourly pay during the last two years.
